Policies

Academic writing centers provide one-on-one training and consultancy services for academic and professional writing needs. Our academic staff who come to the center have the opportunity to work one-on-one with the experienced staff working at the center. During one-on-one counseling, it is aimed to help our academics improve their writing skills by providing the necessary information and strategies about academic writing in English, which is quite different from Turkish, and by increasing their awareness of their writing processes. In this way, our academicians who receive counseling from our center have the opportunity to examine the manuscripts together with our staff and receive immediate and effective feedback and consultancy regarding the mistakes they have made. In this context, all kinds of academic texts such as abstracts, articles, CVs, application letters written in English are prepared with a professional point of view by our academic staff. In addition, our center organizes Academic Writing Skills Development Course and provides training not only to our university staff but also to participants from all segments of the society on academic writing in English.

How we work

Gazi University Academic Writing, Research, and Application Center has adopted an appointment-based one-on-one counseling format. From its establishment until the Covid-19 outbreak in March 2020, the consultancy service in our center was carried out in an environment where the trainer and the client were together and the text was reflected on two different monitors. However, currently, due to the epidemic measures, our consultancy system is carried out in two ways: "simultaneously via Zoom" or "remote via e-mail". To provide more fair service, academic staff who want to get counseling from our center are not given a second appointment before their appointment ends, and our academic staff can make a maximum of one appointment within a week.
